Young The Giant Biography

American indie rock group Young the Giant was founded in 2004 in Irvine, California. The members of the group are François Comtois on bass guitar, Jacob Tilley on guitars, Eric Cannata on guitars, and Sameer Gadhia on lead vocals and auxiliary percussion (drums). Young the Giant, formerly known as The Jakes, was signed by Roadrunner Records in 2009 and issued their self-titled first album in 2010. The Jakes was established in Irvine, California, in 2004. Following a series of lineup changes over the following few years for various reasons, the group's permanent lineup, which included Sameer Gadhia, was founded in 2008. Jacob Tilley, François Comtois, Eric Cannata, and Ehson Hashemian (though Hashemian would soon leave the group). The group decided to put their academic pursuits on hold in order to concentrate on music the same year, with one member still in high school and others attending various institutions. The band performed at the House of Blues in Chicago in January 2009 after winning a Sonicbids online competition to open for Kings of Leon. The band performed four times at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, two months later. Texas Tea by the band was featured in an episode of The Real World: Brooklyn on MTV, while Paid the Piper appeared on The Beast on A&E. The Los Angeles radio station KROQ played another song, Cough Syrup. Keyboardist Ehson Hashemian left the band after signing with Roadrunner Records in August. The band revealed their new moniker, Young the Giant, in December.
