Yoelle Maarek Biography

Yoelle Maarek is a vice president of research at Yahoo and is in charge of the Yahoo Labs in India and Israel. Web search, data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, distributed systems, and computer science theory are all areas of study for the teams in India and Israel. She earned her Ph.D. in computer science from Technion in Haifa, Israel, in 1989. As part of her Ph.D. studies, she spent a year as a visiting Ph.D. student at Columbia University in New York. Information retrieval, web search, web mining, and web applications are some of Yoelle's areas of interest in her study. She is active in the research community and has published over 65 articles in these areas. She has participated in the most recent SIGIR WWW and WSDM conferences as a regular or senior PC member, serving as PC co-chair of WWW'2009, WSDM'2012, and SIGIR'2012. For WWW'2014 SIGIR'2014, she is now acting as a Senior PC member.
