Yasmeen Hassan Biography

After three years as the Deputy Executive Director and Director of Programs, Yasmeen Hassan was named the Global Executive Director of Equality Now in 2011. Her last position was with the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women, where she worked as the Secretary-research Generals on violence against women as well as the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). In 1994 and 1995, Hassan worked as a law clerk on the D.C. Court of Appeals and was a corporate attorney with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and California (1995-2003). She edited the first report on discriminatory laws published by Equality Now in 1999. She has offered professional advice to the U.N. Trust to End Violence Against Women, sat on the Council on Foreign Relations' Advisory Board on Child Marriage, and promoted women's rights through interviews with CNN, Al Jazeera, the Huffington Post, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
