The youngest of five children raised by a single mother, Xavier Jennings, 21, was from East Denver. He started peddling narcotics at the age of 13, joined a gang, and was engaged in the criminal justice system. At age 17, he left school.
At the age of 18, he discovered YouthBuild at Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC), where he has worked ever since. After successfully earning his GED and graduating from YouthBuild in December 2008, Xavier was given the 2009 Denver Metro Mayors and Commissioners Youth Award.
