From 1960 through 2000, Wu Qing taught English at Beijing Foreign Studies University. She received several honors for her outstanding teaching. She has been actively advancing women's rights and human rights since the middle of the 1980s. She serves on various boards for women's NGOs both domestically and abroad.
She was democratically elected to the Haidian Peoples Congress and is now serving her eighth term as a people's deputy. She was the first deputy to use the Chinese Constitution, meet with residents on Tuesday afternoon, and submit her work for review. She upholds the Constitution's principles of democracy, rule of law, accountability, and transparency.
