Woody Widenhofer is a former head coach of a collegiate football program and a former NFL assistant coach. He has been named head coach of the Alabama Blackbirds of the United National Gridiron League, a new minor league that was set to debut in February 2009 but has been postponed indefinitely.
Widenhofer is most remembered for his contributions to the Steel Curtain defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which won four Super Bowls in the 1970s. He then had brief stints as head coach at the University of Missouri and Vanderbilt University, both of which were unsuccessful.
