American space rock/psychedelic rock group Wooden Shjips is from San Francisco. Spacey psychedelic rock and experimental minimalism drone rock have both been used to describe their music. They've been compared to Guru Guru, Suicide Loop, The Velvet Underground, The Doors, and Suicide Loop.
They are presently signed to Thrill Jockey Records, which also has Tortoise Future, Islands the Sea, Cake, and Matmos on their artist roster. Ripley Johnson, the guitarist for the Wooden Shjips, also performs in the 2009-founded side project called Moon Duo with Sanae Yamada.
