Wolfmother Biography

An Australian hard rock band well known as Wolfmother was created in 2000 by drummer Myles Heskett, vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale; and bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross. Wolfmother is currently an incomplete band composed of, Ian Peres (bass, keyboards), Vin Steele (rhythm guitar) and Stockdale. In October 2005, Wolfmother released their self-titled debut album which peaked at number three on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. The album was also a commercial success which won the 2006 ARIA Awards for Best Breakthrough Album and Best Rock Album and the 2005 J Award. In 2007, a single from the album called ‘Woman’ won the band a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. In August 2008, Pioneer co-founding members Heskett and Ross departed from the band due to irreconcilable musical and personal differences and Stockdale continued to use the Wolfmother tag with new musicians. In January 2009, Stockdale came back with a brand new four-piece band with current member Peres, drummer Dave Atkins after a brief break and rhythm guitarist Aidan Nemeth. In October 2009, Cosmic Egg was released and reached the Australian chart as Wolfmother. It was their only album. In April 2010, following extensive touring, Atkins departed from the group and was substituted with Will Rockwell-Scott of The Mooney Suzuki, a garage rock band. The band has been working tirelessly on the follow-up to Cosmic Egg since 2011 although lineup changes in February 2012 which saw Hammond joining the band, Rosser taking over from Rockwell-Scott and Steele replacing Nemeth slowed down their recording progression. In early 2013, the finalized album was completed and released titled ‘Keep Moving in March’ under Stockdale's name, and not under Wolfmother’s name. Stockdale later verified that Wolfmother were on an indefinite break and in July Wolfmother returned to performing live Stockdale changed his mind.
