Since 1973, William Nordhaus has been a full professor of economics and a professor at Yale's school of forestry and environmental studies. He has been a member of the Yale University faculty since 1967. Together with his wife Barbara, who works at the Yale Child Study Center, Professor Nordhaus resides in the heart of New Haven.

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Since 1972, he has served as a member and senior advisor of the Brookings Panel on Economic Activity in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the research staff of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
