William Dudley is an American economist and former central banker. He served as the 10th president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 2009 to 2018. As vice chairman and permanent voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), he influenced U.S. monetary policy during the post-financial crisis recovery, quantitative easing, and early normalization efforts.
Before the NY Fed presidency, Dudley was executive vice president of its Markets Group (2007–2009), managing open market operations. He spent the early part of his career at Goldman Sachs as a partner, managing director, and chief U.S. economist for over a decade.
