Will Arnett was born on May 4, 1970, to Alexandra Arnett and E. James Arnett in Toronto, Canada. The Arnett family had considerable affluence; Will's father worked as a corporate legal advisor before rising to the position of president and CEO of Molson Breweries. Arnett has a younger sibling in addition to two older twin sisters. He played hockey as a child and attended French-speaking schools; he is still a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. Arnett, who was troublesome as a youngster, was transferred to an all-young men's school when he was 12 years old. There, he was often caught smoking. I was constantly cleaving wood because you needed to do so in case you were caught smoking. The school was located outside. When he was 16 years old, he was asked to leave. His mother suggested that he focus his energy on acting, so when he was younger, he began auditioning for commercials in Toronto. Will Arnett left school after graduating from secondary school and spending a semester at Concordia University in Montreal. He then relocated to New York City in 1990 to pursue a career as an emotional actor. For the next ten years, Arnett masterfully mixed voice-over work, pilots for constrained sitcoms, and little parts (in one particular career feature at the time, he portrayed an admirer reliant on open sex on Sex and the City). Arnett experienced a depressing time during which he became frustrated and started abusing alcohol. He was in a funk until a realization in the late spring of 2000, when he remarked, "I knew that I wasn't going anywhere and that I expected to sort of get my life on target." I set the container down and was given the chance to work.
