Cody Cannon and Cody Tate began writing music in a modest rental home in the sleepy East Texas town of Elkhart, Texas, just yearning for the success that would undoubtedly come next. They began to collaborate with friend and guitarist John Jeffers' talent and inventiveness. They had only three people at the time, but they went by the name Lucky Southern. They relocated to Tyler, Texas as their motivation grew over time. They met up there with Jeff Hogg, a common acquaintance and drummer from Palestine, Texas, and Gary Brown, a bassist who grew up in Neches, Texas. They decided to take a real crack at it and were known Soon the group was performing for private events on flatbed trucks in little towns around East Texas. No one could have predicted the uniqueness of the sound they produced. A young Whiskey Myers was hooked on performing from their very first performance in Montalba, Texas, and the groups were hooked on them. They were given the opportunity to support Roger Creager in the spring of 2007 at Gator's Bar & Grill in Gun Barrel City, Texas. The owner of the club was so taken aback by their performance and the group who performed on a stage that he asked them to come back the following week's end to open for The Eli Young Band.
