Wes Studi Biography

A Cherokee actor and director is named Wes Studi. For his portrayal of Native Americans in movies, he has received both fundamental acclaim and funding. He has been in films that have won Academy Awards, such as Dances with Wolves (1990) and The Last of the Mohicans (1992), as well as films that have been nominated for Academy Awards, such as Geronimo: An American Legend (1993) and The New World (1994). (2005). He is also recognized for playing Sagat in Street Fighter (1994). He has also appeared in the films Heat Mystery Men, Avatar, A Million Ways to Die in the West, and the television series Penny Dreadful. He was admitted to the Hall of Great Western Performers at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in 2013. Studi was in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War before starting his career in movies. After an honorable military discharge, Studi returned with a fire in his belly and established himself as being really involved with Native American legislative concerns. He became a member of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and participated in the 1972 Trail of Broken Treaties protest march on Washington. He was one of the rebels who promptly enlisted the help of the nearby Bureau of Indian Affairs building. Wes developed an interest in the South Dakota occupation at Wounded Knee in 1973, which is why he was apprehended.
