At the age of five, Wes Chatham was accidentally discovered when his mother took his sister to an audition in Savannah, Georgia. A throwing executive noticed him standing in the entranceway and offered him a nationwide battle for Tide. Wes was chosen to write a play that was eventually produced by his classmates at the Gift Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where he was enrolled in studies when a professional theatre group from Atlanta started a tutoring partnership with the school. Wes first became interested in the arts through this engagement in the theatre. He enlisted in the Navy after graduating from high school and spent a significant amount of time working in crash and rescue on the flight deck of the USS Essex. Denzel Washington chose Wes' yacht to shoot the movie "Antwone Fisher" just three months before his stay in the country came to an end. Wes was given his first filmmaking experience by Robi Reed, who was looking for authentic military personnel for the film hurling chief. Robi convinced Wes to move to Hollywood after "Antwone Fisher" and has since cast him in his first traditional arrangement role on Showtime's "Barbershop." When Paul Haggis cast Wes beside Tommy Lee Jones as "Corporal Steve Penning" in "In the Valley of Elah," Wes began to get attention. Since then, he has collaborated with Oliver Stone in "W," David Mamet, and Shawn Ryan on the CBS drama "The Unit," and he was a member of the ensemble cast of DreamWorks' SAG Award-winning film "The Help."
