Wendy E. Parmet Biography

The JD/MPH program at the law school is coordinated with Tufts University School of Medicine as well as the Program on Health Policy and Law by educator and major expert Wendy Parmet. She received the Matthews Distinguished University Professor designation in the spring of 2003, which recognizes and fosters the original and perceptive work of prominent Northeastern University faculty. Professor Parmet received recognition for her national leadership in interdisciplinary reasoning and critical thinking on issues related to social insurance in 2015 when she was named a joint (with the law) employee of Northeastern University's School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs. She also shares management duties for the Northeastern University School of Law Public Law and Legal Theory Paper Series and Human Rights and the Global Economy on SSRN. Professor Parmet teaches Public Health Law and Torts and has published works on AIDS law, bioethics law, and general welfare law. She is co-author of Ethical Health Care (Prentice Hall 2005), Debates on U.S. Medicinal Services, and Populations Public Health and the Law (both published by Sage Press). Professor Parmet served as a law clerk for Chief Judge Levin H. Campbell of the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit while he was a partner in the Boston law firm Hill & Barlow. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Health Care for All as well as the top management team (and a former head of the top body) of Health Law Advocates. She has previously served in the roles of Public Health Law Association Secretary, member of the ABA's AIDS Coordinating Committee, and commissioner on mental and physical disability law.
