The Great One, or Wayne Gretzky, is widely regarded as the greatest hockey player to ever play. Gretzky has stayed close to the sport he loves after a successful career on the ice. From 2005 to 2009, he served as the Phoenix Coyotes' head coach and executive vice president.
More recently, he was chosen as the vice chairman of the Edmonton Oilers in 2016 and the representative of the NHL's centennial celebration in 2017. After dominating the National Hockey League for 20 seasons—more than any player in league history—Gretzky announced his retirement from playing on April 16, 1999.
