While a member of P.S. Eliot, a band formed with her twin sister Allison Crutchfield released her debut work as Waxahatchee on Plan-It-X Records as a split tape with Chris Clavin. Don Giovanni Records released her room recorded first compilation American Weekend in 2012.
Crutchfield wrote and recorded the collection over the course of many weeks in her family's house in Birmingham, Alabama. Her poetry focused on close relationships, devastation, and desire. The collection received favorable feedback and was rated a top collection of 2012 by Dusted magazine.
