The frequency was founded in 1980 by Jim Winter, a former secondary school English teacher who realized the connection between teaching and acting when exploring impromptu creativity at Chicago's famed Players Workshop of Second City. Winter persuaded his colleagues that their ability to celebrate and mock political and social situations would be a significant benefit to instructors.
