Vir Das Biography

Vir Das was born in Dehradun and has lived in Africa, where he attended Indian Language Schools in Lagos, Nigeria, Shimla, and Delhi. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Theater from Knox College in Illinois, with a focus on execution. Vir is also related to Knox's Delta Theta chapter of the Sigma Nu organization. Following his graduation from Knox, Vir was accepted into the Stanislavsky Program of the Moscow Arts Theatre. Vir appeared in three sketch satire troupes while in the United States: The Really Useless Improv Inc, Illegal Aliens, and Illegal Aliens. With them, he performed, wrote, and developed improv performances in the style of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' He has worked as a boat comedy on Carnival Cruise Line between Houston and Mexico. He also spent time working in Chicago satirical clubs. A large number of people have witnessed his standup comedy. Vir returned to India in April 2003 and has since done more than 100 spoof appearances in all major metropolitan regions. He has performed six (1.5 hour) satire specials created by and featuring him at the India Habitat center to crowds of over 900 people every night. These include Brown Men Can't Hump. Members Only Bored of the Things! Who Leaked the Das? A Switch's Child! VIRagra, too. All of these performances were sold out in a matter of days."
