Victoria Herrmann Biography

The Arctic Institute's president and managing director is Victoria Herrmann. Along with working with the Institute and Board of Directors, her research and writing focus on asset economies, asset networks, and human turn of events, with an emphasis on Arctic oil and gas. She is a Gates Scholar at the University of Cambridge's Scott Polar Research Institute where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Geography of the Arctic. In 2016, Herrmann traveled throughout the country for a book on environmental change tales called America's Eroding Edges, which was funded by National Geographic. She was a Junior Fellow at the Energy and Climate Program of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace before. In 2012, the Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship awarded Herrmann the Eureka! Prize, and in 2013, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue Arctic research in Canada. Arctic Melt: Turning Resource Extraction into Human Development, her 2015 book, is written by her, and has appeared in several companion survey journals, such as the Polar Law Yearbook, Polar Record, and Polar Geography. Among others, CNN, BBC, and NPR have all featured her masterful conclusion. Herrmann has a master's degree from Carleton University in Ottawa's Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and a bachelor's degree in international relations and art history from Pennsylvania's Lehigh University.
