The short story collection Slapboxing with Jesus and the four volumes The Ecstatic Big Machine were written by Victor LaValle. Additionally, he is the creator and essayist of the comic book DESTROYER by Victor LaValle.
Among the awards he has received are the Shirley Jackson Award, the American Book Award, the Guggenheim Fellowship, the United States Artists Ford Fellowship, and the route to Southeast Queens. His upbringing was in Queens, New York. He currently resides in Washington Heights with his significant other and kids. At Columbia University, he teaches.
