Vicente Fox is a Mexican businessman and politician who served as the 62nd President of Mexico from 2000 to 2006 under the National Action Party. His election was historic, unseating the Institutional Revolutionary Party's 71-year power grip on the country and marking a new democratic transition.
Fox grew up on a ranch in San Francisco del Rincón, Guanajuato, raised by a Mexican mother and Spanish-German father. He earned a business administration degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana and studied at Harvard Business School. Fox worked at Coca-Cola Mexico starting in 1964, rising to president of its Latin American operations by 1979. He entered politics in the 1980s and was elected to Congress in 1988. As governor of Guanajuato, he gained popularity for his “common man” demeanor, often wearing cowboy boots and focusing on tangible issues such as education reform and infrastructure investment.
