At the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she also received both of her degrees, Veronica I. Arreola holds the positions of associate chief of the Center for Research on Women and Gender and CEO of the Women in Science and Engineering program. Arreola is a specialist in public administration with a focus on gender and women's studies and a single male degree in biological sciences. A Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring was given to her office in recognition of their coaching initiatives throughout the Chicago population and on the UIC campus. Arreola is an active member of local and international groups of women activists. She is a founding member of the Women In Media and News board and a current member of the Bitch Media advisory board. Arreola has collaborated with organizations including the Chicago Foundation for Women and the Chicago Abortion Fund National Organization for Women Employed. A seasoned blogger, she assisted in 2007 with the management of the Illinois Planned Parenthood Action blog. Arreola, a devoted Chicago Cubs supporter, resides on the north side of Chicago with her significant other's daughter, their dachshunds, and a little child.
