Verne Harnish Biography

Verne Harnish is the founder and CEO of Gazelles, Inc. and the Mast of Business Dynamics (MBD) program, focused on assisting businesses in implementing tools for handling the complexity that comes with growth. He is also a member of the Young Entrepreneurs' Organization (YEO) and the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs (ACE). He was featured on the cover of the magazine's December/January 2002 edition after being named one of the "Top 10 Minds in Small Business" by Fortune Small Business Magazine (FSB). He is a prolific author and journalist who also wrote the cover story for the September 2001 issue of FSB and contributes regularly to Fortune.com as "The Growth Guru." Released in April 2002, his most recent book, Mastering the Rockefeller Habits: What You Must Do to Increase the Value of Your Fast-Growth Firm, has been translated into a number of languages. For nineteen years, Verne has provided CEOs of developing and growing companies with advice. Verne leads the famous MIT/Inc./YEO "Birthing of Giants" executive leadership program and sits on the board of the New York City-based National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Along with two book series on creativity and innovation, he is the creator and presenter of the audio and video series Controlling Interruptions. He is equally at ease working with entrepreneurs and corporate customers in a government or non-profit context as he is leading the first delegation of young entrepreneurs to the People's Republic of China or leading a U.S. Department of Education large summary report for The White House. He has contributed to more than a hundred magazines and newspapers, including Forbes, Inc., and The Wall Street Journal, due to his knowledge of the entrepreneurship field. He has appeared on a number of national television and radio programs, including Smart Money, CBS News, and Nation's Business Today. Verne holds an MBA and a B.S. in mechanical engineering. Cameron, age 6, and Cole, age 3, are his children; he is married to Julie. The International Brotherhood of Magicians member enjoys playing the piano, playing tennis, and magic. Omicron Delta Kappa, a leadership honorary society, named him National Leader of the Year. Tau Beta Pi named him one of the first two recipients of the National Laureate Award for Leadership (Engineering honorary organization).
