Mr. van Roosmalen has spent a significant amount of his life residing and working in tropical South America. He was raised in a Maroon village in Suriname, the French Guiana, and Brazilian Amazon jungles, among other places. He has a master's degree in political and environmental sciences. Together with the Brazilian government and 20 indigenous tribes, Mr. van Roosmalen enabled the charting of 18 million parts of Indigenous lands. As the Assistant Vice-President of the Amazon Conservation Team (ACT) and Director of ACT Brazil, Mr. van Roosmalen oversees a team of 25 professionals working in a multidisciplinary team to strengthen indigenous networks and their ability to manage and protect their biodiversity.
