Before becoming a co-have on the game show Wheel of Fortune in 1982, Vanna White worked as a professional model. She is responsible for deciphering the letters on the show's massive puzzle board and showing a line of constructions that are always changing. As a passionate crocheter and mother of two, White has created her own yarn brand, Vanna's Choice. White relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, after finishing secondary school, where she attended the Atlanta School of Fashion and worked as a model. She moved immediately to Los Angeles in 1979 to pursue a career in acting, but by the middle of the following year, 1980, she had to return to South Carolina to visit her mother, who was dying of ovarian cancer. White returned to Hollywood with renewed vigor and landed a string of small acting roles in mostly forgettable films, including the role of Mickey in Gypsy Angels, a bit part in Looker starring Albert Finney, and the diminutive role of Doris in the high school spine-chilling Graduation Day. White eventually got the job that would become her career later in 1982. She was chosen from among 200 contenders to replace departing meteorologist Pat Sajak as host of Merv Griffin's Wheel of Fortune on NBC. The program enjoyed great success for a long time after that. In 1986, a coordinated night form attracted 30 million viewers, which was twice as many as the No. 2 coordinated program MS*H and brought in $100 million annually. In 1999, Wheel of Fortune's sixteenth year of syndication, almost 40 million people watched it.
