American musician, actor, and television personality Vanilla Ice. Ice was born in South Dallas and raised in South Florida and Texas. His debut album, Hooked, was released by Ichiban Records in 1989. Later, Ice signed a deal with SBK Records, an EMI Group record label, and the album was reissued in 1990 under the title To the Extreme.
This album featured two of Ice's most well-known songs, "Ice Ice Baby" and a cover of "Play That Funky Music." The first hip-hop song to top the Billboard charts was "Ice Ice Baby." Despite his success, Ice eventually regretted his business dealings with SBK since they had paid him to change his image to one that would appeal to a larger audience and had released false biographical material without his consent.
