Vanessa Morgan Biography

The Canadian actress and singer Vanessa Morgan Mziray was born on March 23, 1992 in Ottawa, Ontario. She was discovered singing at a California festival when she was nine years old and won Junior Miss America in 1999 and then won first place at the African-American Vocal Competition and Junior Miss America.

She made her television debut in 2000 when she appeared on VH1’s A Diva’s Christmas Carol. Vanessa gained early success playing Amanda Pierce in The Latest Buzz (2007–2010), Sarah in My Babysitter’s a Vampire, and Beatrix “Bird” Castro in MTV’s Finding Carter. She and her sister participated in The Amazing Race Canada in 2013 where they achieved a third-place finish.

In 2017 she landed the role of Toni Topaz on the CW series Riverdale which became her most notable part to date. She started as a recurring character but became a series regular and received Teen Choice awards for “Choice Breakout TV Star” and “Choice Scene Stealer” in 2018. Her character brought both depth and inclusivity to mainstream television programming.

In addition to Riverdale, Vanessa expanded her artistic horizons by appearing in The Shannara Chronicles and will star in the upcoming 2024 series Wild Cards.

Vanessa graduated from Colonel By Secondary School in 2010 before attending Queen’s University to study philosophy. She comes from Scottish and Tanzanian ancestry and actively supports diversity initiatives and mental health awareness.
