Valerie A. Szczepanik works as an Assistant Director in the Division of Enforcement's Cyber Unit at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). She is the Co-Head of the SEC's Dark Web Working Group, the group's Distributed Ledger Technology Working Group Head, and a member of the FinTech Working Group. At the Eastern District of New York Office of the United States Attorney, Ms. Szczepanik filled in as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. She practiced patent law prior to serving as a government clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Ms. Szczepanik earned her law degree from Georgetown University and her engineering bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
