Valerie June Hockett, known as Valerie June, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and poet. Raised in Humboldt, Tennessee, in a music-loving family, she blends folk, blues, gospel, soul, and Appalachian styles. June began performing at 19, self-releasing three albums before moving to Memphis, where she busked and worked odd jobs. Her breakthrough came with “Pushin’ Against a Stone” (2013).
Other albums include "Order of Time” (2017) and “The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers” (2021), featuring hits like "Workin' Woman Blues" and "Call Me a Fool." A Grammy nominee, she has collaborated with artists such as Mavis Staples and Norah Jones. June's poetry book, “Maps for the Modern World” (2021), reflects her introspective art.
