Val Kappa Biography

She created and performed a comedy piece in an acting class during her first year at Boston's Emerson College. She had a blog she used to communicate called Uuna Goes Sledding. She received a and some laughter for it. She started acting out her Uuna persona in Boston parody clubs and other settings about mid-year. It was the perfect way for her to start writing satire. She had the opportunity to experience what it was like to perform in clubs while hiding behind a persona for protection. Uuna spent some of the demonstration trying to get herself ready to deal with large crowds. Uuna would do this by asking the audience to annoy her before throwing a confection called Laffy taffy at them from behind the counter. After spending a lot of money on Laffy Taffy and donning a snowsuit, Val decided to try something new by being herself. In the middle of the year, it was far too hot to ever be wearing a snowsuit. She then started to show up at clubs and outdoor gatherings where people would read short stories that she had written. She continued doing so for a full year. Since then, Val has developed a demonstration that is based on her experiences. In May 2000, Val left school and relocated to New York in 2001.
