With a performance of Translations of Xhosa at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2003, Aduba began to get praise for her performances and was honored with the Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Play. Her role as Toby in Coram Boy marked her Broadway debut in 2007.
She was a member of the Godspell Original Revival Cast at the Circle in the Square Theater between 2011 and 2012. She also portrayed the mother of Venice's main character at New York's Public Theater. In 2012, she made her debut on television in the episode of Blue Bloods.
