The band's self-titled debut album was released on Fat Possum Records on June 21, 2011. The record earned positive reviews very immediately.
The album received an 8.1 on Pitchfork, which said that UMO manages to achieve a distinctive immersive and hallucinogenic atmosphere without depending on the standard assortment of bong-ripping effects. The group received the Taite Music Prize for the album in the spring of 2012.
