Livni assumed leadership of the opposition following the installation of the Netanyahu administration in April 2009. After being appointed vice prime minister and minister of international affairs in the 31st Israeli cabinet in 2006, she held the office of minister of justice. She had four responsibilities in the 30th administration, which was created in 2003. Livni was named minister of agriculture and regional cooperation in the 29th administration in 2001. Livni was initially elected to the Knesset in 1999. She has since served as a member of the Committee on the Status of Women, the Constitution Law, and Justice Committee, and as chair of the subcommittee in charge of drafting the Prevention of Money Laundering Law.
