A researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is Tyler Clites. In the course of his Ph.D. work, he developed a technique for creating prosthetic limbs that can transmit joint position and movement sensations directly to the nervous system. Twelve different patients have received the limbs, which employ a revolutionary technique for performing amputation surgery and a robotic control system.
He was selected as a healthcare honoree for Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in 2019.
