Ty In 1981, Michael Carter relocated to the Bay Area of California. Carter was sent to the Primary Marksmanship Instructor School in 1999 after demonstrating potential in weapon marksmanship. He participated in two brief training deployments, one to Egypt during Operation Bright Star and the other to San Clemente Island in California.
On October 12, 2002, Carter received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. Carter understood he would eventually join the military. Carter joined the American Army on January 3, 2008, in order to enroll in the Cavalry Scout Basic Training Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
