Turia Pitt is a motivational speaker, athlete, author, and burn victim from Australia. Pitt, then 24 years old, got trapped in a grass fire while running an ultramarathon across Australia's Kimberley area in 2011. Pitt had been burned over 65 percent of her body for several hours before medical aid arrived and airlifted her out.
She spent a month in a medically induced coma as a result of her injuries in the fire. All of her right hand's fingers, as well as two of her left, had to be removed. She spent six months in the hospital, had over 200 procedures, and recovered for two years.
