He bought an abandoned auto business when he went back to his hometown soon after graduating from college. The city youth center is located in the former car garage at the back of the building. According to Norton, converting an abandoned structure into a community resource required a lot of effort and labor but was also tremendously fulfilling.
Early in the 1990s, Norton relocated to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career in television. He has been on shows including Friends and Will & Grace in addition to hosting roles. He takes pleasure in outdoor pursuits like hiking and camping. Norton enjoys observing the city's historic structures and thinking, "Just imagine what someone could accomplish with it!"
