Trombone and trumpet musician Troy Andrews hails from New Orleans. Andrews is the grandson of musician Jessie Hill and the younger brother of trumpeter and bandleader James Andrews. Since 2009, Andrews has traveled with his own band, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, which he started playing trombone with at the age of six.
Andrews' Horns For Schools Project, a partnership with New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu that enabled schools all across New Orleans to obtain top-notch instruments given by Andrews personally, gave rise to the Trombone Shorty Foundation.
