She was born in California and raised there as well as in Washington. She earned her first position at Britannia Jeans, a Seattle-based sportswear brand, after studying garment design at the University of Washington. Turk's next trip was to Los Angeles, where she designed surf apparel for Ocean Pacific and swam through a sea of 30 patterns every season.
