Trey Gowdy is an American attorney, former politician, and television host. Raised in Spartanburg, he earned a B.A. from Baylor University and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina. After clerking for judges, Gowdy practiced law at Nelson Mullins and served as a federal prosecutor (1994–2000), tackling narcotics and murder cases.
As solicitor for South Carolina's 7th Judicial Circuit (2001–2010), he won unopposed re-elections. Elected to Congress in 2010, he represented South Carolina's 4th district (2011–2019), chairing the House Oversight Committee and leading the Benghazi investigation. Retiring from Congress in 2018, Gowdy rejoined his law firm, teaches with Sen.
