About Travie Mccoy
Travie Mccoy Biography
Travis McCoy was born Travis Lazarus McCoy on August 5, 1981 in Geneva, New York. He first met Matt McGinley in high school. The two connected over their passion of music and established a band before becoming Gym Class Heroes in 2001. He had a busy time with the band, releasing record after album and traveling in the US and Europe. He was arrested and charged with third-degree assault on his 2008 Warped Tours for reportedly striking a concertgoer in the head with his microphone. After being freed on bond, he quickly issued a public apology for what had occurred. Travis met Katy Perry for the first time when she was recording a song at a studio in New York, and they began dating shortly after. In Gym Class Heroes' Cupid's Chokehold music video, they played a couple. After a few years of casual dating, he pushed his passion with her to the next level by proposing to her with a promise ring in 2008. Travis broke up with her a few months after she gave her the promise ring. They renewed their romance in April 2009, only to split up again a few months later. Travis worked on a mixtape titled Forgetting Katy Perry after his divorce from her. Based on the title, it was assumed that Travis would take aim at his ex, who had now moved on to Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor Russell Brand. But he rejected the notion, saying, "I'm not spreading my dirty laundry or taking a personal dig at her." It's more like I'm making fun of myself. Prior to the release of the mixtape, Travis collaborated with MTV on a charity track called One at a Time, which benefitted worldwide HIV/AIDS prevention programs. He traveled to South Africa, the Philippines, and India as a spokesperson for MTV's Staying Alive Foundation, and his experiences were included in the song's music video. On June 8, 2010, Travis released his debut album Lazarus. As featured guests, Bruno Mars, Cee-Lo Green, T-Pain, and Young Cash were lined up, with Bruno providing his vocals to the lead track Billionaire, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's me talking about what would happen if I were to become a billionaire. What would I do if I won the lottery?
