Travis McCoy was born Travis Lazarus McCoy on August 5, 1981 in Geneva, New York. He first met Matt McGinley in high school. The two connected over their passion of music and established a band before becoming Gym Class Heroes in 2001.
He had a busy time with the band, releasing record after album and traveling in the US and Europe. He was arrested and charged with third-degree assault on his 2008 Warped Tours for reportedly striking a concertgoer in the head with his microphone. After being freed on bond, he quickly issued a public apology for what had occurred.
