The Walton Hale Hamilton Professor of Law at Yale Law School is Tracey Meares. She was the first person of color to have a tenured position at the University of Chicago Law School prior to joining Yale. Meares's works on topics like crime prevention and community capacity draw on the relationship between law, culture, social norms, and social structure.
Her research interests are in the criminal processes and criminal law policy. She was selected by former attorney general Holder to be on the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs' initial science advisory board, and President Obama selected her to join his Task Force on 21st Century Policing in December 2014.
