Tony practiced his craft while still a youngster by playing "Guess the commercial" games with his four brothers. Tony received a first-class BA Hons in Design and Communication Media from Manchester Polytechnic. He teamed up with Kim Papworth at BMP in 1985. They worked on numerous brands, such as Heinz, Scottish Amicable, Cadbury beverages, and Courage.
They had the chance to work on VW as a result of the DDB merger, and he was awarded a D&AD pencil for it. In 1995, they moved on to Leagas Delaney, where they worked on projects for Adidas, Tanner Krolle, Hyundai, the Guardian, and the BBC, as well as having their Pepe commercial banned.
