Tony Alva and the rest of the Z-Boys may have been the first to skate in empty pools. Alva was famous for striking the lip so hard in the early days that he was really taking off, hence Alva is responsible for the first documented aerial, a frontside air.
Alva appears in the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys about Venice Beach skate culture, which was adapted into the 2005 feature film Lords of Dogtown.
