Thomas "Tommy" D. Mottola, one of the most well-known and prominent leaders in the global media, entertainment, and communications industry, most recently served as Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment. During his tenure, he transformed Sony and its 18,000 workers into the world's most successful music firm, extending its operations and manufacturing facilities to over 60 countries while building one of the industry's best management teams. He also revived Sony Music's publishing branch by acquiring the Beatles collection, allowing Sony to become the first major music firm to make commercial digital downloads available. He became the Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Worldwide in 1993. Sony's revenues soared from $800 million to nearly $7 billion per year under Mottola's leadership, resulting in the company's best-ever sales and propelling it to the top of the global sales rankings. Mr. Mottola is credited with the crossover success and global supremacy of Latin superstars such as Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony, which has become known as "THE LATIN EXPLOSION." He also pioneered a number of highly successful co-branding initiatives, including Celine Dion's marketing partnership with Chrysler and her multi-year residency at the Caesars Palace Forum Theater in Las Vegas, as well as an unprecedented and multifaceted global marketing campaign with Pepsi and Sony Music that helped launch the international careers of many of Sony's top acts. Mottola was able to develop new and profitable business models for Sony, such as amphitheaters in a joint venture with PACE Concerts and Sony Signatures, the world's largest rock merchandise firm, which is now both part of Live Nation Entertainment. Shortly after leaving Sony, he founded the Mottola Company, a multi-media and communications company with a diverse portfolio that includes ownership of intellectual properties in the areas of music publishing, television development and production, social gaming, early child development, theatre, and fashion, as well as branding, consultation, and management services. He has teamed up with the Dodgers Organization (producers of Jersey Boys and Jesus Christ Superstar) and is now developing and producing two Broadway musicals. He also works as a consultant/advisor for Greenwich, CT-based Catterton Partners, and Boca Raton, FL-based Sun Capital Partners. We work closely with the founders of these private equity firms in purchasing and selling businesses, as well as managing acquisitions in the transitional and growth periods, and we sit on the boards of several of these companies. He has served on the boards of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Police Athletic League, the T.J. Martell Foundation for Cancer, Leukemia, and AIDS Research, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum, as well as being an annual sponsor of the National Fraternal Order of Police Foundation's Peace Memorial and a supporter of the New York City Police Foundation.
