Tom joined Teach For America and spent three years teaching fourth grade in Donna, Texas. In 2000, he successfully created the IDEA Academy. At the time, Tom was Texas' youngest-ever charter school creator at the age of 24. Tom has been in charge of the original school's replication efforts since 2000.
More than 23000 kids are now enrolled in the 44 schools that make up IDEA Public Schools on a system-wide basis. Across the country, over 93% of graduates are enrolled in colleges, where they continue to receive assistance and direction from IDEA.
