Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has a wide range of experience in the entertainment industry, from aspiring baseball player to legendary comic book artist to family guy. Canadian-born McFarlane began his journey toward artistic freedom in March 1984, when he agreed to work as a penciller for Marvel/Epic Comics.
From there, he rose through the ranks of the talent list before leaving Marvel to join up with six other artists to start Image Comics. Todd then debuted his own fictional character, Spawn. At its release in 1992, the book sold an astounding 1.7 million copies, an accomplishment unheard of in independent comics.
