Todd Hays, a silver medallist, is the first American bobsledder to win a medal in 46 years. In addition, he holds two world championship medals: a silver in 2003 and a bronze in 2004. He was also a medal contender in both the two and four-man events in Torino.
Hays was the two-man points leader, second in the four-man standings, and first in the combined standings heading into the last weekend of the 2005-06 World Cup. Hays finished third in the combined standings, third in the two-man, and fourth in the four-man despite skipping the last weekend to prepare for the Olympics.
