Timothy Snyder is an acclaimed American historian, author, and esteemed keynote speaker in Central and Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union, the Holocaust, and authoritarianism. Educated at Brown University (BA) and Oxford (DPhil as a Marshall Scholar), he joined Yale University in 2001, serving as Richard C. Levin Professor of History and Global Affairs until 2025.
In 2025–2026, he assumed the inaugural Temerty Chair in Modern European History at the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, while remaining a permanent fellow at Vienna's Institute for Human Sciences and Senior Fellow for Democracy at the Council on Foreign Relations.
